The Good Humor Story

Over a century of bringing smiles and sweet memories to neighborhoods across America

1920

The Sweet Invention

Harry Burt, a candy maker from Youngstown, Ohio, invented the chocolate-coated ice cream bar on a wooden stick. His daughter suggested coating vanilla ice cream with chocolate, and his son came up with the idea of putting it on a stick—making it easier to eat without messy hands. The Good Humor bar was born!

The Iconic White Trucks

Harry Burt created the first fleet of white refrigerated trucks equipped with bells to announce their arrival. The clean white trucks and uniformed "Good Humor Men" became symbols of trust and quality in neighborhoods across America. The distinctive bells could be heard blocks away, sending children running with excitement!

Good Humor trucks became an American institution. The "Good Humor Man" was a trusted figure in communities—always in crisp white uniforms, known for their friendly service.
